Well well, I am almost already nostalgic of what has been a great football season. I know, I am a big softie :)
This weekend was the cherry on
the cake, the bacon on the top of a raclette melting, the trou normand
after a heavy meal i.e. the Cup Final and I can tell we are the Cup
holders !
Well done everybody! For the first time , The Mavericks name will be graved on a Cup :)

Despite heavy hangovers, Sylvain and myself were the first at the pitch.
We were playing on the
homeground of Hanwell Town F.C, a typical british semi-professional
club if they had not had that ticket pricing policy: £1 for
adults ,£6 for kids.
If they were allowed, I wonder how much they would have put for women :)
Anyway, we were greeted with a
massage table (but no masseuse :( ) in the dressing rooms , a couple of
players' wifes and girlfriends and the presence of the league
organizers.
With one referee, two linesmen, a large and flat pitch , all the conditions were there to play some real football.
And that is what we did. The
first minutes , we got a very large amount of possession, the ball
going from defense to attack in some proper short passing way.
We got numerous corners , Jm
getting a header close from first post. It is Djay's deflected shot on
the crossbar that provides us with the best opportunity.
Jeremie also had a powerful shot from 30 meters that goes just wide, unlucky.
The next 20 minutes were a little less excellent and Waterloo,without doing much, got half a chance but that is about it.
At Half time, It is 0-0. Not surprising considering It was the two best defenses of the league on the pitch.
Errol came in for O.Pons.
The second half starts with the same domination but once again, we were not sharp enough to finish the job in the box.
It could have been all
disastrous when a corner kick slips from Glenn's hands but our strict
organization meant the man on the post cleared the ball.
Nico D came in as a forward.
On his first acceleration, the man injured himself but he courageously
keeps going. It all paid off later when he sneakily goes forward near
the touchline on the left, resist a tackle to deliver a long cross for
Errol's header which finishes in the net (1-0) You'll have to admire Errol
's determination, going for it when the keeper had his two fists first
! Sylvain joined us as right back just before for Nia.
A couple of descent chances of
shots on targets made the rest of the game thrilling. I could have
killed the game when a deflected shot landed on me. After a good ball
control, I set up my self for a thierry henry curvy second post shot.
It went closer to the third post than the second...
Thirty seconds later, It was
the final whistle blown. We could congratulate ourselves, Becks lifted
the trophy with all of us around him. Happy days.
We played a really good
passing game, key to that were our central midfielders, Jeremie and
Vassili, the last getting the Man of the match award 2 votes ahead of
Jeremie. Well Done !
The after game saw an even
tougher competition on the table football. Sylvain having a
suspiciously strong wrist :) I ll have to admit I went "fanny sous le
baby" as well with Olivier Pons.
